Media Literacy - using forums effectively
  • Allows teacher to address critical thinking skills which normally are not addressed due to time constraints.
  • Currency, Relevance, Authority, and Bias.
  • This aided students when they were evaluating their resources. Students commented on important aspects of a resource such as;
    amount of pertinent information, hyperlinks leading to additional information, reviews by authoritative sources, links to other web sites and the safety of those protected sites.
  • They suggested search strategies to classmates, and agreed or disagreed with one another about the quality of a resource, conciseness, ease of finding understandable information and whether vocabulary was explained in detail. Students even commented on the scope of the resource.
